Thanks to our international partners and local businesses, the Ukrainian economy has remained resilient and started to recover this year, despite the full-scale war. The rebuilding of Ukraine is a global project that requires huge resources, but at the same time offers many opportunities, especially for the private sector. It is private investors who will directly or indirectly contribute to Ukraine’s economic recovery.
This was stated by Volodymyr Kuzio, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, during the online presentation of the investment risk insurance program for French businesses “Introduction of the French investment insurance mechanism in Ukraine against war-related risks” at the event organized by the Franco-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event was attended by over 150 leading French and Ukrainian companies already operating in Ukraine or considering entering the Ukrainian market.
“The key sectors for private investors in Ukraine could be energy, agriculture and processing, defense, mineral resources, green metallurgy, transport and logistics, healthcare, IT and others. The Government of Ukraine is also working to accelerate the demining of territories, restore energy and housing infrastructure, and, of course, introduce effective war risk insurance mechanisms to create a favorable business climate in the country,” Volodymyr Kuzio noted.
Thanks to close cooperation with a number of international financial institutions, such as the EBRD, EIB and IFC, as well as export credit agencies, direct financing and export support guarantees will be made available to local and foreign private companies.
“On the part of the Government, the goal is to unlock the flow of private investment needed to sustain Ukraine’s economy during the war and support Ukraine’s rapid recovery and long-term reconstruction. War risk insurance plays a crucial role in this. We appreciate the participation of BPIFrance in the introduction of investment risk insurance for French companies,” Deputy Minister added.
We remind that in September 2022, Advantage Ukraine, an investment attraction initiative, was launched with the support of the President of Ukraine. The investment platform’s project team works with the support of the USAID Competitive Economy Program in Ukraine, providing professional advice to potential investors and analytical support to domestic companies seeking to raise equity or debt capital and submit projects for political risk insurance.
