One of the most important processes in humanitarian demining in Ukraine is the coordination of all participants in this process and measures aimed at developing this area in Ukraine. Rapid demining is a matter of human safety, business development and economic recovery. In addition, this is a new niche that can be actively developed, and the Government is already taking the necessary steps in this regard.

This was stated by Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Economy of Ukraine, during a meeting with Pier Francesco Zazo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Ukraine, Kuninori Matsuda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, and Jaco Cilliers, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine.

"Humanitarian demining is a new market for Ukraine and we are interested in its rapid development. Currently, there are 14 private demining operators in the country and another 25 are awaiting certification. The number of deminers has increased to 3,000, but the available resources are not enough to clear the area quickly, as 80% of Ukraine's territory is contaminated with potentially explosive objects. For our international partners, this is an opportunity to enter this niche and help us release the land," said Yuliia Svyrydenko.

The First Deputy Prime Minister added that to coordinate the humanitarian demining of the territory of Ukraine, the Government has established the Humanitarian Demining Centre, whose main tasks are to collect and analyse information, strategic planning, coordination of the process and international cooperation in the field of humanitarian demining.

Ukraine also plans to develop a National Mine Action Strategy by the end of 2023 and a detailed National Programme by the end of the first quarter of 2024. In particular, it is important to identify areas that can be brought back into use as soon as possible, survey them and clear them if necessary.

In turn, representatives of Japan and Italy expressed their intention to participate in the preparation of national standards for land release, and Japan is also interested in localising the production of demining equipment in Ukraine.
