The Ministry of Economy and German businesses talk about ways to improve business climate and increase investment

Юлія Свириденко

The Government looks forward to foreign private investment in Ukraine’s recovery. This was stated by Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy of Ukraine, at a meeting with representatives of German companies and members of the German-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Ministers of Economy of Ukraine Volodymyr Kuzio, Oleksii Sobolev, Ihor Fomenko and Taras Kachka.

“We appreciate the business that is currently operating in Ukraine - their taxes finance our security and defense. Our priority this year is to attract investment in the real sector of the economy. We are looking forward to welcoming German businesses to Ukraine and are ready to create all the necessary conditions for their work. Ukraine offers investment opportunities in various sectors, ranging from energy and infrastructure to agro-processing and digital technologies. Our Government is committed to creating a favourable business environment that encourages entrepreneurship, stimulates growth, and promotes innovation and environmental competitiveness,” Yuliia Svyrydenko emphasizes.

During the conversation, the German business representatives were interested in humanitarian demining programmes, unification of procurement procedures, expansion of war risk insurance instruments, and opportunities to stimulate Ukrainian producers.

“Ukraine is actively involved in creating mechanisms to support investors and mitigate risks, including initiatives to insure war risks and provide financial guarantees for investments. We work closely with international organizations and export credit agencies to ensure the security of investments in our country. The Government is working to expand the war risk insurance infrastructure, which was actively launched last year. This year, we have allocated funds in the state budget to support significant investment projects and stimulate the development of industrial parks,” Volodymyr Kuzio said.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed the prospects for implementing specific energy efficiency projects, mobilizing and reserving workers at Ukrainian enterprises, and the situation on the Ukrainian-Polish border. The actions of Polish farmers blocking cross-border crossings are affecting many Ukrainian and German companies, whose supply chains are currently experiencing interruptions. The parties agreed to jointly solve these and other problems, as well as to deepen industrial cooperation between Ukraine and Germany.

“I invite all interested companies to take part in the URC-2024 Ukraine Recovery Conference to be held in Berlin on June 11-12, 2024. This event provides a unique opportunity for Ukrainian, German and international companies to come together, exchange ideas and explore potential partnerships. We also invite you to get acquainted with the prospective location of production facilities and projects for the modernization of Ukraine’s manufacturing sector, as well as cross-sectoral cooperation in the processing industry,” Yuliia Svyrydenko summarized.
