Attracting investment, strengthening trade and establishing business ties – results of the working visit to Chile

Залучення інвестицій, посилення торгівлі та налагодження бізнес-зв’язків – результати робочого візиту у Чилі

Prospects for holding a joint meeting of the Ukrainian-Chilean Governmental Commission in the last quarter of this year, which was last held 13 years ago, deepening cooperation in trade and attracting investment – these were the issues discussed by Ukraine and Chile during the first visit of a high-level Ukrainian delegation to Chile in more than a decade.

The delegation included Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kamyshin, Minister for Strategic Industries, Dmytro Klimenkov, Deputy Minister of Defence, and Mykhailo Spasov, Representative of the Commissioner for Equal Rights and Freedoms, Rights of National Minorities, Political and Religious Views.

“With this visit, we are deepening economic cooperation with Chile. It is important for us to develop strategic partnerships with Latin American countries, as this is a large market that is interesting for both Ukrainian producers and vice versa, and Chilean businesses are interested in investing in Ukraine. We invited Chilean companies to join the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin. Some of them are already preparing specific projects and proposals,” Yuliia Svyrydenko noted.

The Ukrainian delegation held talks with Chilean Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism Nicolás Grau, President of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism Jose Pakomio Torres, President of the Confederation of Production and Commerce Ricardo Mewes and Minister of Agriculture Esteban Valenzuela.

“The main areas of interest to our partners are extractive industries, especially cooperation in critical materials, the agricultural sector, the processing industry, and digitalisation. In addition, Chile has good examples of public-private partnerships and is ready to share this experience with Ukraine. It is also ready to establish joint ventures,” Yuliia Svyrydenko said.

In addition, the parties agreed to deepen cooperation at the level of the chambers of commerce of Ukraine and Chile, as well as investment agencies of both countries.

Other issues on the agenda included work on the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Chile, improving logistics for exports and supporting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure amid systematic russian shelling.
