Improvements in Sanctions Policy: Government Is Consolidating Work on Sanctions through Inter-Departmental Working Group
08.09.2022 | 12:30 | Section for Public and Mass Media RelationsThe proposals regarding application, cancellation and introduction of changes in sanctions prior to submission to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval will be subject to mandatory previous review by the Inter-Departmental Working Group on Implementation of State Sanctions Policy.
It results from the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated September 7 introducing changes in the procedure for preparation of such proposals.
“Ukraine and our western allies have clear intentions to further strengthen the sanctions pressure on the aggressor. Therefore, the issue of coordinated work of all public authorities involved in formation and processing of relevant proposals, as well as more flexible and prompt decision-making mechanisms is urgent. The Inter-Departmental Working Group was established, in particular, in order to accelerate the process of approving sanctions, and to make the restrictive measures maximally effective. The first meetings of the group have already proved that the path was chosen correctly: based on their results the Cabinet of Ministers approved and forwarded to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine the powerful sanctions packages, in particular against Rosatom”, noted the First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
Recall that the Inter-Departmental Working Group on Implementation of State Sanctions Policy was established by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers dated August 30. It consists of representatives of Ministries of Economy, Finance, Justice, Internal Affairs and Foreign Affairs, Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories, involving experts of others public authorities and departments. Its tasks include analysis of current status of implementation of imposed sanctions, development and submission relevant recommendations to the Government.
The Inter-Departmental Working Group is led by the First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
