GLOBSEC 2025: Humanitarian Demining in Ukraine Discussed at Leading Security Forum
17.06.2025 | 13:39 | Section for Public and Mass Media RelationsDeputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Ihor Bezkaravainyi, took part in the event “Mine Action: A Global Agenda” held as part of the 20th GLOBSEC Forum in Prague. During the discussion, he shared how Ukraine’s experience could be useful for other countries affected by landmines and remnants of war. Participants also explored strategies for global coordination in mine action and how to mobilize funding more effectively amid tightening resources.
“In Ukraine, mine action is not just a deminer with a metal detector. The scale of the challenge we face has pushed us to take a more comprehensive approach. We use AI to build a prioritization system and analyze satellite images. With drones, we not only conduct visual surveys but also detect mines and explosive hazards hidden in grass and underground. We are updating our standards to match current realities — because people’s lives and their ability to live safely on the land depend on it. We are ready to share our experience with the international community and search for solutions together,” said Ihor Bezkaravainyi during the event.
On the sidelines of GLOBSEC, Ihor Bezkaravainyi met with OSCE PA Special Representative on Fighting Corruption Irene Charalambides. They discussed humanitarian demining, Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction after Russian aggression, cooperation on anti-corruption policy, and international support.
“The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly stands with Ukraine. We are firmly committed to supporting your sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as contributing to Ukraine’s recovery and future through parliamentary diplomacy and practical engagement,” stated Irene Charalambides.
She also emphasized the importance of anti-corruption efforts in the context of reconstruction:
“After every war, the risk of corruption increases. We must work together to enhance transparency, accountability, and good governance — to ensure international aid brings the greatest possible benefit to the Ukrainian people,” Irene Charalambides added.
