Ukraine is counting on continued financial support from Japan in 2025: Yuliia Svyrydenko

Currently, the Japanese parliament is finalizing the discussion of the draft budget for next year. During the meeting with the Ukrainian delegation, Japanese parliamentarians emphasized the unwavering support of our country. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko following the meeting with the Chairman of the Japan-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Association Eisuke Mori and representatives of all parliamentary parties.
The government delegation also included Deputy Ministers of Economy Tetiana Berezhna, Andrii Teliupa, Deputy Minister of Finance Olha Zykova, Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Serhii Derkach, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine Edem Adamanov, Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection Serhii Tkachuk, Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasiuk, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Nataliya Boyko.
“I would like to thank you for the comprehensive assistance that Japan has already provided to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war by the Russian Federation. Eisuke Mori was one of the first to publicly support our country from the first hours of the full-scale invasion. Today, during the meeting, Japanese parliamentarians assured of their unwavering cross-party support for Ukraine. I hope that Japan’s budget for 2025, which is currently being finalized, will reflect the intention of the Japanese side to continue supporting Ukraine. Currently, Japan is the second largest donor to our country’s budget, and I believe that this support will remain as strong as before,” Yuliia Svyrydenko noted.
During the meeting with parliamentarians, Yuliia Svyrydenko also thanked Japanese politicians for their support for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula. She noted the importance of the introduction of sanctions packages against the Russian Federation, the humanitarian assistance provided, and the decision to hold a forum on humanitarian demining of Ukraine in 2025 in Japan.
She also thanked Japan for its contribution to the decision to use the proceeds from Russia’s frozen sovereign assets to cover a USD 50 billion loan.
Background information
Japan is one of the largest donors to our country. In 2024 alone, it allocated USD 4.2 billion to support the budget of Ukraine. In parallel, Japan provides assistance to Ukraine through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The amount of support has already reached over USD 1.5 billion.
The country also supports Ukraine’s efforts in humanitarian demining, with aid exceeding USD 70 million during the full-scale invasion.
