19.11.2025 | 16:30 | Section for Public and Mass Media RelationsAs part of the 4th International Food Security Conference Food from Ukraine, the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture of the Republic of Ghana signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Processing and Distribution Center for Ukrainian food products in West Africa. The document marks a new stage in bilateral partnership and deeper agricultural cooperation aimed at strengthening regional and global food security. It also represents the first step toward developing Ukrainian agro-hubs across the African continent.
The Memorandum outlines the framework for cooperation, including:
• joint assessment of the feasibility of establishing a Processing and Distribution Center in Ghana that will receive, process, and distribute Ukrainian wheat and other food products;
• exchange of knowledge, data, technologies, and best practices in agriculture;
• preparation of a feasibility study, project documentation, and future investment agreements;
• engagement of businesses, agricultural associations, research institutions, and private companies from both countries in joint initiatives;
• ensuring that future projects comply with environmental, social, and technical standards.
Ukraine commits to providing technical expertise, equipment, and technological support, while Ghana will facilitate land allocation, required permits, access to infrastructure, and legal guarantees necessary for project implementation.
“Launching a joint Processing and Distribution Center in Ghana will be an important step toward expanding Ukraine’s presence in African markets and helping to ensure access to quality food for millions of people. Our partnership with Ghana is not only about trade – it is a strategic contribution to global food security and the development of resilient supply chains. At a time when Russia continues to weaponize food, we are demonstrating that Ukraine remains a reliable and predictable partner for the countries of West Africa,” noted Denys Bashlyk, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
Implementation of the Memorandum is expected to:
• increase Ukraine’s agricultural exports to African countries;
• establish a Processing and Distribution Center in Ghana, serving as a logistics hub for Ukrainian products;
• attract foreign investment into food processing, logistics, and agritech;
• support local infrastructure development and create new jobs in Ghana;
• strengthen political and economic partnerships between Ukraine and African nations;
• enhance regional food security, particularly in countries dependent on imported grain and flour.
The signing of the Memorandum reinforces Ukraine’s position as a global contributor to food security, expands cooperation with the Global South, and opens new markets for Ukrainian producers.

Food from Ukraine builds on the Grain from Ukraine initiative launched by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in 2022 to help address the global food crisis. The initiative supplies Ukrainian grain to countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and other regions facing acute food insecurity.
Since 2022, more than 320,000 tonnes of agricultural products (including wheat, flour, corn, peas, and sunflower oil) have been delivered to 18 countries across Africa and Asia: Bangladesh, Djibouti, Congo, Yemen, Ethiopia, Zambia, Kenya, Mauritania, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, and Chad.
Through three Grain from Ukraine summits, over USD 370 million in donor contributions has been mobilized.
