Oleksii Sobolev, the Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, held a working meeting with Serhiy Byzov, the Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine. Representatives of industry trade unions, in particular from the metallurgical and construction sectors, also took part in the event.
The main topic of discussion was the situation in the industry amid power outages caused by massive russian shelling of energy infrastructure. The parties discussed in detail the impact of electricity restrictions on production processes, the financial stability of enterprises, job preservation and wages.
Trade union representatives outlined the problems faced by metallurgical and construction companies as a result of unstable energy supplies, including forced downtime, reduced production volumes and additional business costs. Particular attention was paid to the impact of these factors on employees and the need to preserve workforces in a war economy.
The meeting also discussed labour legislation and further work on the draft Labour Code of Ukraine. The need for a systematic update of labour relations regulation was discussed, taking into account the current structure of the economy, the challenges of wartime and Ukraine's European integration course.
"In a war economy, preserving jobs and supporting industry is a joint task for the state and social partners. We are interested in a substantive dialogue on updating labour legislation and developing solutions that will allow businesses to operate stably and provide employees with adequate guarantees. Further work on the document must be carried out in a substantive manner, in accordance with established parliamentary procedures and in close cooperation with the parties to the social dialogue," Oleksii Sobolev says.
The work of the National Tripartite Social and Economic Council (NTSEC) was also discussed. The Ministry emphasised the importance of holding a meeting of the NTSEC Presidium in a timely manner and its readiness to facilitate organisational preparations within the framework of the rules of procedure and powers of the social dialogue partners.
