31.10.2024 | 08:44 | Section for Public and Mass Media RelationsThe State Emergency Service of Ukraine has received two tractors purchased with funds provided by the Slovenian government as part of the United24 initiative. The tractors will allow for faster delivery of demining equipment to areas where land clearing is underway.
“I thank Slovenia for its support for humanitarian demining in Ukraine. Additional tractors ensure greater mobility for our rescue units. It is important for us that the tractors are purchased in response to a request from the State Emergency Service. Such interaction allows us to effectively spend the money provided to us by our partners for humanitarian demining needs,” Dmytro Panshin, Head of the Humanitarian Demining Department of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, said during the ceremony of handing over the vehicles.
The agreement on allocating 1.5 million euros for humanitarian assistance in the field of demining was signed by the governments of Ukraine and the Republic of Slovenia in December 2023. The agreement entered into force on July 3 of this year after the completion of the necessary internal procedures.
“I know very well how important the work of demining our land is. Allocating 1.5 million euros for the needs of humanitarian demining is a very right step by the Slovenian government. And the Embassy team and I are working to ensure that our country’s contribution grows,” the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Slovenia to Ukraine Mateja Prevolšek, said.
“Next season, we at the State Emergency Service, with the help of partners, hope to have up to 90 demining vehicles. This is probably the largest fleet of such vehicles in Europe. And I hope that we will be able to clear an even larger area of the territory. And we really need tractors, because demining vehicles need to be transported to the place of work,” the Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Andrii Danyk said.
The Ministry of Economy is the administrator of the UNITED24 account for the needs of humanitarian demining. Since May 2023, the account has received more than 177 million in hryvnia equivalent. For the money from this account, a heavy-duty vehicle was purchased for the State Emergency Service, and the production of another vehicle for the State Special Service of Transport was partially financed. Protective equipment, metal detectors, and sapper kits were also purchased for specialists of the State Special Service of Transport.
