In April, Ukraine exported a record volume of products. According to Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy of Ukraine, last month’s exports totalled more than 13 million tonnes, surpassing the figures for February 2022. In monetary terms, exports reached USD 3.3 billion in April.

“The measures taken by the Government of Ukraine together with our international partners to restore and increase exports are yielding excellent results. According to the results of April, we achieved a record export volume of 13.1 million tonnes since russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine. This is 1.3 million tonnes more than in March. And more than Ukraine exported in February 2022. We continue to work on increasing export volumes, especially non-resource exports, as this is an important component of our Made in Ukraine policy. Together with the increase in production and investment in the real sector, this will contribute to the development of the economy,” Yuliia Svyrydenko noted.

According to First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy, the growth of exports was influenced, in particular, by the opening of an alternative sea corridor last summer, which allows Ukraine to export grain and metal, among other things. The UNITY ship insurance programme, established jointly with the British government and a pool of insurance companies, also helps to unlock Ukraine’s export potential. Exports were also positively affected by the expansion of the capacity of the Solidarity Lanes, primarily with Moldova and Romania, as well as improved conditions for the transportation of goods by rail to the Danube ports.

On 1 March, during a visit to the UK by the Ukrainian delegation headed by Yuliia Svyrydenko, it was announced that the UNITY affordable ship insurance programme, implemented by Marsh McLennan and Lloyd’s of London in cooperation with the Ukrainian Government, would be expanded. The programme covers not only the maritime transport of grain and other important foodstuffs, but also vessels carrying all non-military cargo, including metal, and is also available for container shipping.
