International technology companies are increasingly looking to Ukraine to open R&D centers. This was noted by Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Oleksandr Hryban during the IP&I marathon: How to commercialize intellectual property, organized  by the IP office with the support of iHUB for the World Intellectual Property Day.

The Deputy Minister of Economy emphasized the leading role of IP as a foundation for the development of innovations and the introduction of new technologies, noting that understanding the meaning of IP for the state and the economy is undergoing a transformation today.

“In order to effectively rebuild the country according to European and international principles, we need new inventions and technologies. The development of the national IP system is an impetus for the development of innovation in every industry. All inventors, whose minds generate new ideas today, should understand that the Ukrainian IP system protects their creative work not only in Ukraine but also in the international context. Our task as a relevant body is to create the prerequisites for their appeal to our IP system. I am very glad that today the National Intellectual Property Body is already fully functioning and gaining momentum, providing for the needs of the participants in the innovation process. I am confident that the reforms implemented in the near future will create this industry on the full scale in which it exists today all over the world and will enable further development of innovations and the implementation of the bright ideas of our inventors, which are traditionally characteristic of Ukraine,” said Oleksandr Hryban.

The Deputy Minister also drew attention to the interest of the international technological industry in using Ukraine's intellectual and research capabilities.

“Today, we are witnessing a trend that international technology companies are increasingly looking to Ukraine to open R&D centers. Despite the war, this process is being renewed today, and we encourage the technology information giants to expand such a presence. For sure, an effective system of IP protection and innovation that meets international standards is an extremely important component of this process,” emphasized Oleksandr Hryban.

Representatives of the innovation process from the state, science and business, in particular professionals of the IP office and relevant ministries (Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Education and Science and Ministry of Defence), educational, research and developments institutions, the Ukrainian Startup Fund, professional and business associations and others participate in the IP&I marathon.
