Inflation Rates Are Gradually Slowing Down, Price Dynamics Are Improving – The Ministry of Economy
08.09.2022 | 11:26

Inflation rates in Ukraine have been decreasing for the second month in a row - this is an important positive signal for consumers and enterprises. This was announced by First Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Denys Kudin on the air of the national telethon.

He noted that this year’s record high inflation is a global trend. Even in the countries of the European Union, it reaches 9.1%. As for Ukraine, inflation is caused by two factors - specific internal and external ones. Thus, inflation is partly imported, because we buy expensive energy resources - gas, oil products - and the high world prices for them are reflected in the prices in Ukraine.

However, the main inflationary factor is the war, because of which the supply of goods decreased as a result of the decrease in production, and costs increased as a result of the disruption of logistics, the destruction of production funds, production chains and other purely war-related negative consequences. Accordingly, this causes an increase in prices.

“Now the inflation dynamics in Ukraine is gradually improving. In fact, there has already been a significant increase in the price of certain goods and services, and for the past two months in a row, taking into account the data of the daily monitoring of the prices for certain goods, the rate of inflation has been decreasing. We predict that it will continue to slow down until the end of the year, although seasonal manifestations of acceleration in certain segments of the market will naturally take place,” Denys Kudin pointed out.

The reason for the optimistic forecast is the decline in world prices for oil and oil products, which, in particular, fell by 10% in August and continue to fall. And also a decrease in world food prices for 5 months in a row. This should have a positive effect on prices in Ukraine. Thus, in August, the prices for seasonal vegetables (potatoes, beets, cabbage, carrots) fell the most - by 25-45%, the prices for liquefied gas for cars - on average by 10.4%, diesel - by 3.4%.

The Government also continues pursuing an active policy in the area of price control for socially important goods and services.
