The issue of demining and putting agricultural land into commercial use was discussed during the meeting between First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko and UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine Denise Brown, WFP Representative & Country Director Matthew Hollingworth and UNDP Mine Action Coordinator in Ukraine Paul Heslop.

During the conversation, the parties discussed current issues of demining the territories of our country, the progress of surveying and clearing, in particular, Kharkiv region, the coordination of actions with the aim of faster return of surveyed and cleared lands to use.

“We are extremely interested in the restoration of commercial activity as soon as possible on the agricultural lands, which have already been exploited by governmental and non-governmental operators. Therefore, not only the survey and demining but also the statutory procedures, in particular the control of the work done and the transfer of responsibility for the cleared territory, should also be carried out quickly,” said Yuliia Svyrydenko.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to create a coordination group that will work on speeding up the implementation of relevant procedures, which will contribute to the quick return of cleared lands to use.
