In London, during Ukraine Recovery Conference-2023 (URC-2023), a memorandum was signed on further cooperation between the EBRD and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) on coordinating investment (co-investment) efforts in Ukraine, especially in the private sector of the economy. DFIs from 19 countries have already joined the Platform.

The event was attended by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko, EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso, heads of DFIs, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Europe at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office Leo Docherty and other high-ranking officials.

“The post-war reconstruction of Ukraine will take place mainly thanks to private capital. Therefore, it is extremely important for us to coordinate the efforts of international financial institutions for a more effective and large-scale reconstruction of Ukraine with an emphasis on the private sector. Our cooperation should contribute to the restoration of the economy, industry, infrastructure and the normalization of people’s lives in Ukraine,” Yuliia Svyrydenko emphasized.

As the participants of the event noted, the financial needs of Ukraine during the reconstruction period are enormous and go beyond the limits of any single institution. Therefore, the Ukrainian investment platform will be needed for careful coordination between partners to maximize the effectiveness and impact of their activities.

World DFIs and the EBRD also seek to expand this platform to an even greater number of institutions that will invest in Ukraine in the future.

We remind that on May 12, 2023, in Tokyo, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) of the G7 countries - JBIC (Japan), JICA (Japan), CDP (Italy), FinDev Canada (Canada), Proparco (France), DFC (USA), BII (Great Britain), DEG (Germany) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) held negotiations and agreed on the creation of the Co-investment Platform between the EBRD and bilateral development agencies. Its work will be coordinated with identified needs within the framework of the Multi-agency Donor Coordination Platform for Ukraine.
