Ukraine carefully elaborates sanctions against russian federation to minimize an opportunity of appealing them in the court, and cooperates with partners to strengthen sanctions pressure on the aggressor in the future.

This was announced by the First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko on the air of the National marathon.

“The European colleagues are ready to continue sanctions pressure. Moreover, the World Bank published its report predicting that by the end of the year the Ukrainian economy will fall by 35%, and russian – only by 4.5%. This suggests that sanctions are not effective. Therefore, we have full moral right to elaborate those issues with our partners, somewhere to press in order to strengthen sanctions,” said Yulia Svyrydenko.

The First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine emphasized that export of oil, gas and metallurgical products provide most currency earnings of russian federation and allow the aggressor state to continue the war. So, precisely these sectors of the economy have been affected by sanctions.

Speaking about working on sanctions introduced by Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized that the proposals are being carefully elaborated by the Interdepartmental Working Group on sanctions policy to exclude an opportunity of appealing sanctions in the court.

“Based on previous experience of imposing sanctions on those or other persons, decisions can be appealed. And it is very important to form a thorough legal framework at the stage of preparing sanctions. Therefore, meetings of the working group were attended by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, the National Agency on Corruption Prevention, the Security Service of Ukraine, Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, prosecutor’s office. In other words, there are all agencies present to elaborate sanctions as much as possible at the preparatory stage and have minimum risks of defeat in the court. Because we are absolutely sure that russian business cannot work in Ukraine,” said Yulia Svyrydenko.

It is worth saying that the Interdepartmental Working Group on sanctions policy was established by the decision of the Government on August 30, 2022. The basic tasks of the group included, in particular, analysis of the state of implementation of applied sanctions and monitoring their efficiency, development and submission of recommendations and proposals to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
