Since the beginning of the year, governmental and non-governmental operators have surveyed more than 200,000 hectares of agricultural land identified for priority demining. This was reported by Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine, citing data from regional military administrations.

“There are 200,000 hectares of agricultural land surveyed since the beginning of the year. This is a significant result and a significant pace of work. It is especially important that more than 120,000 hectares of surveyed and demined land are already being used by agricultural producers. Returning agricultural land to economic use and restoring economic life in the liberated territories is the main goal of the plan for priority demining of agricultural land, which we are working to achieve,” said Yuliia Svyrydenko.

In just the past week, demining teams conducted surveys on approximately 4,500 hectares of agricultural land. Among these, over 3,700 hectares were located in the Kherson region, more than 430 hectares in the Mykolaiv region, and over 280 hectares in the Kharkiv region.

As a reminder, the Action Plan for humanitarian demining of agricultural land spans four years and aims to rehabilitate over 470,000 hectares of highly valuable agricultural land. The execution of this Action Plan falls under the purview of the Interagency Working Group on Humanitarian Demining, led by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Yuliia Svyrydenko.

The Ministry of Economy is actively involved in crafting the National Mine Action Strategy. To steer this effort, a dedicated working group was formed through a Ministry of Economy order dated August 16, 2023. This group is tasked with drafting regulations related to mine action and outlining the key tenets of the Strategy.
