Ukraine and the EU have started to discuss the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), which Ukraine needs to implement to integrate into the EU. This was discussed at an online meeting between First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko and Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Artur Lorkowski.

The Cabinet of Ministers has recently adopted the new Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2050, which provides for existing best practices. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, with the involvement of international experts, has drafted the National Energy and Climate Plan of Ukraine until 2030. The Action Plan for post-war reconstruction and development of Ukraine in pursuance of the Energy Strategy until 2050 is currently being finalized. We are confident that the National Energy and Climate Plan of Ukraine should become part of the country’s post-war recovery,” said Yuliia Svyrydenko.

According to the First Deputy Prime Minister, energy is key to Ukraine’s climate transformation. However, the National Energy and Climate Plan will have an impact not only on the energy sector but the entire economy.

I propose to hold the first online meetings at the level of experts before the G7 + Ukraine Coordination Group meetings to take place in London in June. We will synchronize our process with external partners there,” added Yuliia Svyrydenko.

Finally, the First Deputy Prime Minister stressed that climate neutrality and green transition were the main principles of Ukraine’s recovery.

It will be good if the National Energy and Climate Plan complements the recovery plans, the economic strategy and the recovery needs assessment,” summed up Yuliia Svyrydenko.
