Trade and economic relations between Ukraine and Costa Rica have great potential for growth, this concerns the increase in volumes and the diversification of trade. Preparations for the Memorandum of Understanding signing between Ukraine and Costa Rica on the promotion of trade and investment relations are currently being completed. The possibility of concluding a Free Trade Agreement is also being considered in the future.

This was discussed during the online meeting of the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko with the Minister of Foreign Trade of the Republic of Costa Rica Manuel Rivera.

"Before the full-scale Russian invasion, Costa Rica was one of the top trading partners of Ukraine in Latin America. We actively exported iron and steel to that country. Both our countries are interested in restoring the pace and volume of exports of Ukrainian products to the Costa Rica market. Let's create a joint working group to strengthen trade, which, I sincerely hope, will be able to become a basis for starting work on the Free Trade Agreement between our countries in the future," said Yuliia Svyrydenko.

According to the First Deputy Prime Minister, Ukraine is also interested in holding a business forum to establish close ties between the businesses of the two countries.

Costa Rica support on the path of joining Ukraine the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is also valuable The First Deputy Prime Minister noted that the OECD program for Ukraine, signed in June 2023, is aimed at supporting the reform and reconstruction of our country. Costa Rica actively maintained the membership of Ukraine in this organization. Costa Rica became a member of the OECD in 2021.

The parties also discussed preparations for the Global Peace Summit initiated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Yuliia Svyrydenko invited Costa Rica to join the event.

"I am grateful to the partners for the fact that Costa Rica will be represented at the first Global Peace Summit. During the event, we will focus on issues of global importance: radiation and nuclear safety, food safety, humanitarian direction. These points of the Peace Formula are a common interest of all democratic countries of the world," added Yuliia Svyrydenko.
