In 2018 Ukraine implemented the donor assistance projects to the amount of USD 6.6 billion, according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine analyzed the status of implementation of international technical assistance projects in 2018 on the basis of monitoring provided by their beneficiaries. It is known that international technical assistance is the resources and services provided by donors on a gratuitous and irrevocable basis in order to support Ukraine in accordance with international treaties.

During 2018, Ukraine implemented 618 international technical assistance projects to the total estimated cost of USD 6.6 billion (including 10 projects costing USD 3.1 billion funded from Chernobyl Foundation “Ukryttia” and the Nuclear Safety Account).

In 2018 Ukraine implemented 109 international technical assistance projects (to almost USD 1 billion) having exceeded the figure of 2017.

Traditionally, the largest donors for Ukraine in 2018 were:

  • USA – more than USD 2 billion (124 projects);
  • EBRD – USD 759.7 million (44 projects);
  • EU – USD 522.3 million (235 projects);
  • Germany – USD 386.9 million (39 projects);
  • Canada – USD 152.3 million (18 projects).

At the same time, funding was allocated in 2018 within the framework of international technical assistance in the areas of target use as follows:

  • National Security and Defense – USD 1.2 billion (28%);
  • Nuclear safety (excluding the Chernobyl Foundation) – USD 819.1 million (20%);
  • Governance and civil society – USD 509.8 million (12%);
  • Restoration of Donbas and support for internally displaced persons – USD 356.7 million (9%);
  • Regional development – USD 334.7 million (8%);
  • Power engineering and energy efficiency – USD 262 million (6%);
  • Health care – USD 137 million (3%);
  • Education and science – USD 120.8 million (3%).
