Sanctions Counterattack: Government Hit Rosatom and Russian Rseudoeducation

At the meeting which took place on September 2, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a number of decisions on submission of the proposals regarding application of personal special economic and others restrictive measures (sanctions) to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine for review.

Thus, in particular, the Government suggested that the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine considers application of sanctions against Russian state-owned corporation Rosatom as one of key entities of the Russian economy and levers of influence and pressure in the issues of external policy of the aggressor state. And also against more than 350 related legal entities. It comes about enterprises and organizations being members of Rosatom and their subsidiaries located both in the territory of the aggressor state and beyond.

The same decision approved submission of the proposals regarding approval of sanctions against individuals being managers of state-owned corporation Rosatom, its enterprises, organizations and subsidiaries responsible for the implementation of the policy of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and taking direct part in the decision-making and implementation of nuclear terrorism acts in the territory of Ukraine to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine for review. The list proposed for review by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine included more than 350 persons.

The proposals regarding the aforementioned sanctions, in particular against Rosatom, were previously reviewed and recommended by the Cabinet of Ministers to a newly established Inter-Departmental Working Group on Implementation of State Sanctions Policy led by the First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.

“Decisions currently approved by the Government are a clear example of activation of Ukraine’s efforts on the sanctions front. The Inter-Departmental Working Group, designed to strengthen the efficiency of current sanctions and accelerate approval of new ones against persons involved in the aggression, started its work a few days ago. Coordination between ministries, departments, organizations involved in the development of sanctions will strengthen. The decisions on the restrictions will be adopted extremely quickly and without mercy towards enemies of our state”, said Yulia Svyrydenko.

Moreover, the Government adopted the decision to submit the proposals regarding application of sanctions against individuals and legal entities involved in the illegal distribution of educational standards of the Russian Federation in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine for review. The relevant list included 82 individuals and 53 legal entities. In particular, Voronizh Institute of High Technologies, International Institute of Computer Technologies, Siberian University of Consumer Cooperation, etc.

Another decision of the Government proposes the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to consider application of sanctions against individuals and legal entities of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, who contributed to a large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, participate in the organization of “schemes” to circumvent sanctions applied by the USA and the EU, create threats to national interests and national safety of Ukraine. The list included 132 individuals and 179 legal entities. In particular, enterprises of aircraft construction industry of the aggressor state, such as Novosibirsk Aircraft Repair Plant, Arsenyev Aviation Company “Progress” named after M.I. Sazykin, 150 Aviation Repair Plant, etc.
