The representatives of the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine (hereinafter – Ministry) are participating in the 32nd biggest International Trade Fair for Organic Food Biofach eSpecial 2021, held online on 17-19 February. Deputy Ministers Serhiy Hlushchenko and Taras Kachka have taken part in the event.

Ukraine has participated at Biofach eSpecial 2021 for the eighth consecutive year, being represented by the Ukrainian National Pavilion Organic Ukraine Business Hub, which have united over 20 Ukrainian companies.

In particular, the Ministry is participating in Biofach eSpecial 2021 with support of the Swiss-Ukrainian Project “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” financed by Switzerland and implemented by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL, Switzerland) in partnership with SAFOSO AG (Switzerland). 

The Ukrainian organic producers and exporters of final organic products, organic raw materials for further processing, and authorized inputs for organic production as well as service providers are the exhibitors of the Ukrainian National Pavilion.

“In 2019, Ukraine was the 1st in Europe and 2nd in the world (among 123 countries) by volume of organic products import to the EU. The Ministry is working at increasing the area of organic agricultural land and development of organic market in Ukraine”, said Deputy Minister Serhiy Hlushchenko during his welcome speech.

He added that, apart from the EU, the Ukrainian organic grain, pulses, oil crops, berries, oils, groats and dairy products are also exported to the USA, Canada, Switzerland, the UAE, Japan, and other countries. In 2019, the total export turnover of Ukrainian organic products was USD 189 mln (456,000 tons), 85% of which was exported to Europe, 12% - North America, about 3% - Asia, about 1% - Africa.

In 2021, thanks to the Ministry, governmental support for organic producers in the amount of UAH 100 mln will be provided. The amount will potentially be increased in the following years.
