Some state-owned companies want to become corporations, – Oleksii Sobolev informed

Some state-owned companies have already expressed their intention to go through the corporatization process. This is evidence that the benefits of change are observable, as the opportunities that corporate governance opens up for the public sector. The final result of this process should be the attraction of investments, which can be measured in billions of hryvnias. Oleksii Sobolev, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, announced this at the conference "Corporate reform – the way to transparent and effective management of state property".
"Corporate governance reform is one of the criteria for our European integration and the opportunity for Ukraine to work according to the rules that apply in other democratic countries. As a result, rules that are understandable for investors build the trust and increase the chances of an investor entering the Ukrainian market. And this allows attracting billions of additional resources and change strategic state companies for the benefit of the state and Ukrainians," Oleksii Sobolev underlined.
Bridget Brink, the USA Ambassador in Ukraine, took part in the event. She noted that the adoption of a law that improves corporate governance was extremely important for the reform and further changes.
The Law No. 3587-XI received significant support from international organizations such as USAID, the EBRD, the OECD, the IMF, the European Union and the World Bank. Representatives of these organizations participated in the Conference and discussed key changes introduced by the Law and further steps for its implementation.
Among the speakers of the event were also representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance, the State Property Fund and members of the supervisory boards of state-owned companies.
The Conference was organized by the Ministry of Economy together with the USAID/UKaid Project "Activities within the framework of reforming state-owned enterprises of Ukraine" (SOERA).
